Marie Jo are one of Europe's best designers. But this range, Sakura, goes beyond just Europe for its inspiration. This range is centred on the art and interior design of Japan, and sakura is the Japanese name for the cherry blossom tree. The roots of Belgian designer Marie Jo's love of Eastern art comes from their nations' shared history. Over 400 years ago only the Netherlands, which included Belgium at the time, was allowed to trade with Japan. Every last bit of silk, cloth, clothing, art, furniture, and food came through this tiny corner of Europe. That's the kind of history that leaves an imprint on your own sense of style. Sakura's minimalist monochrome is like the calligraphy of the East or a silk screen in a palace.
